The Write Workshop NYC is a unique, weekly writer’s workshop led by author, editor and literary agent Jeff Ourvan in the Flatiron/Chelsea area of Manhattan. Three separate Workshops are offered once a week on Saturdays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays, and each session runs for eight consecutive weeks. We currently have seats available for the Tuesday and Saturday workshops!
The cost for each eight-week session is $350, and writers are admitted on a rolling basis — we’re ready to start when you are. Register now to reserve your space. For more information, contact Jeff at thewriteworkshopnyc at gmail.com.
With each session limited to only 5 fiction and/or nonfiction writers, the workshops offer detailed critiques from Jeff, as well as reviews from fellow participants. Here’s how it works: At the end of each week’s session, writers submit to the group a chapter, or an excerpt of approximately 15 pages long, for review the following week. Each of the fellow writers then shares his or her critique of the submission, and Jeff contributes a thorough written and oral analysis of each work. Some of our writer-students are previously published, and others are tackling their first works. Several writers have published their debut works after writing them in the workshop. Our current roster includes romance authors, literary novelists, thriller & mystery writers, fantasy/sci-fi authors, short story writers, YA authors, memoirists, health and science writers, and others. Also offered are online editing services and Skype or phone consultations for writers either not in the New York area or unable to attend the workshops.
As a literary agent at one of New York’s most successful boutique agencies, Jeff understands today’s publishing market and provides not only editing and writing advice but also suggestions toward making writers’ works commercially viable. After all, writers want to be published — and several from this workshop have!
Jeff’s most recent book, THE STAR SPANGLED BUDDHIST: Zen, Tibetan and Soka Gakkai Buddhism & The Quest For Enlightenment in America, was published by Skyhorse in 2013. A thriller writer and nonfiction author, Jeff studied writing for many years with the award-winning novelist John Rechy. Prior to working as a literary agent, Jeff was a magazine editor, as well as a corporate attorney, public relations executive, geologist and commercial fisherman. For writer testimonials, click here.
